WOW: Kirtle, Cloak and Hexagons

This is first post with my Works in Progress, to link with Esther's Blog.

At present I am mostly working on the outfits for my son's wedding. During the past week I have worked on my kirtle and it is up to the stage of pinning the bodice lining over the seam attaching the skirt. Then I need to add the eyelets and lacing for the bodice back and fit the shoulder straps to the bodice front with elastic. The hem will be done in a few weeks after I have the petticoat and the fabric has been hanging for a few weeks.

This photo shows the kirtle with the unfinished seam laid out on my sewing board set up on the dining room table.

The other garment I have been making is my son's cloak. It is made of a wool outer and damask lining. The pieces are stitched together and waiting for me to make another trip to Spotlight for some velvet ribbon. My son has decided he would like a contrast strip along the front and lower edge as he saw in the picture of one in the Tudor book my future daughter-in-law lent me to draft the patterns.

On the patchwork front, I have been working on my hexagon tablecloth. I did a quick count this morning, 14 more cream hexagons to add for the current row, and then I get to lay out more flowers for the next row.

The quilt so far

The hexagons are 1/2 inch and are made from my scrap stash together with lots of fabric scraps from friends in my 2 friendship groups. The ladies love seeing the progress and picking out their fabrics. I have lots more flowers made ready to add. The oval table that the quilt is destined to be for is 2.3m long (or 3m when extended) and 1.1m wide so there is quite a lot more to do. Currently the top is nearly 1m across so 3 more rows around should be enough to give a bit of a drop down the sides and then lots more rows on each end to make it long enough. This is my long term project for when I need a bit of handsewing and not much thinking to go with it.

I have also been reading all the emails for Esther's new quilt Love Entwined and am really looking forward to joining in making the quilt from my stash. I will probably need to buy background fabric, it all depends on the amount needed.
