More wedding sewing

Another hectic week in the Jones' household. Preparations for the wedding are going ahead full steam. On the sewing front, I have completed both the caps, they don't look all that different from the pictures in my last post as all that was needed was the feathers to be stitched on. My kirtle is finished and looks good.

I have almost completed the coat for Greg. It has a lovely fur collar and lapels. The sleeves hems are pinned and ready to sew. I pinned the hem this afternoon and did a fitting, it is just the right length so I need to do that hem then stitch on the fastener for the waist and that will be another garment finished.

My gown is ready for another fitting (will do that tonight before going to bed - saves getting changed so many times). Then it just needs the sleeves inserting, the eyelets for lacing put in, the hooks and eyes for the front overlap and the hem.

Greg's doublet is cut out and the skirt part is made and pleated ready to sew. The bodice is partly made so there is quite a bit to do yet. Nat's toile is made ready for a fitting when he gets home from work then I can cut it out and get started on that.

Hats, hexagons and kirtle

Well, it's been a very unusual time in the Jones' household since my last post. Lots more doctor visits for Greg, but his medication is finally sorted and it will be back to work on Monday. We took the car to the repairer on Thursday and it won't be ready on Monday 8th as originally thought but on the 17th so we got the hire car that comes as part of our insurance policy.

On the sewing front, I have been trying to work on the wedding outfits. I have managed to almost complete both Henrican flat caps. They just need to have the feathers stitched onto the brim.

I have also been working on my kirtle, putting in eyelets and doing the lacing. It's just about finished, there is 1/8th of the hem left to handsew which I will have no trouble doing this evening while watching tv. I spent the last 2 days drafting the pattern for my husband's coat. Enlarging the drawing from a ladies gown pattern to a men's size was a bit tricky but it is now all cut out. Next job is to re-read the sewing instructions, and cut out the lining. Attempting to squeeze this sewing in between trips out and doing the basic household chores has been hard work.

I have also stitched lots of coloured hexagons while sitting in waiting rooms and then I put them into sets to make 125 new flowers for the tablecloth. This has been my sanity saving time.
