My Quilts 2010 - 2019

                                  2016

A friend, Colleen Scutts, made this quilt top for Quilts for Others and I quilted it for her, before donating it.

My grandson, Stephen, was born in mid 2016 and this is the quilt I made for him.

Many years ago, during 1995 and 1996 I made the blocks for this quilt as part of a block of the month program with Bacchus Marsh Quilters. It took a while but they were finally put together and the quilt was quilted. In December 2016, my sister was visiting while I finished the last bit of handsewing and fell in love with the quilt so it went home with her.

I was given a bundle of hexagon flowers, together with lots of loose hexagons. I made some of the loose hexagons into extra flowers, found a background fabric and made this top for Quilts for Others. A lot of the handsewing was done whilst visiting my mum in the nursing home.

In May 2017, I completed 3 simple quilt tops for donating to Quilts for Others.

In December I completed quilting a top I had made from a set of 9 embroideries I was given to use for Quilts for Others. (Sorry about the photo quality).

In July, I completed a quilt for QFO made from a set of 9 Grandmother's Fan blocks I was given.

At this time, I had become the unofficial orphan block (blocks people donate to QFO that they no longer want to use). So from now on, many of the tops I make will be to use up these blocks.

In October I completed this top using a few of the odd sized blocks. This one was quite challenging to get the maths right with all the unusual sizes.

The next top from orphan blocks was completed in November, and used some large applique blocks.

I started the year with another orphan block quilt top, completed mid January. Again using a mix of sizes to make the top.

In October, I completed making a simple layer cake quilt top for QFO, using a layer cake I was given to make something for QFO.

I also completed a Snippets Quilt Top for QFO. Each year the QFO Committee decide on simple design that can be pieced at the Canberra Quilters Annual Exhibition. The Snippets Quilt was one of them, and I was given the unused prepared kits to make into tops. This is one of the ones I completed.

Over the period of months of sewing, I had been using 2.5" squares to make simple block with 6 squares and a 2.5" x 6.5" strip. I stitched these blocks using the leaders and enders system devised by Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville. I always have a project on the go that I can stitch using this system.

This scrappy top was completed and donated to QFO in December 2019.
