My Quilts 2022 - current

                                  2022

In January I completed an orphan block quilt for Quilts for Others.

In February I completed the top of a bright yellow kit that was donated to QFO. Such a simple block, but so effective.

In February I also completed a Japanese inspired quilt for my sister. When I gave it to her, she was delighted. The quilt top was completed many years ago and quilted by The Quilt Lady.

Two more tops for QFO were made in February. The first, in black, white and red, was made from fabrics given to me by a friend, Colleen.

The second QFO top was another orphan block top.

A friend and his wife had their first child, a lovely little boy they named Samuel and this is the quilt I made for him, completed in March.

I also made 2 tops for QFO from orphan blocks during March.

April saw the completion of another orphan block top for QFO.

I completed a long-term unfinished project, an owl quilt made as a block of the month project at Hobbysew Belconnen with Cathy Stevenson. The top was quilted by The Quilt Lady and I completed the binding during March. The quilt was gifted to Claire and Michael for the wedding in April.

In July I completed a top made from a group of part made blocks and bits that was included in a donation of fabric to QFO. There were a lot of completed blocks, part made blocks and bits with no pattern. So this is what I came up with. A batik border completed the top.

Shortly before leaving Sale in 2000, I designed a Mystery Quilt for the Sale Patchworkers but didn't have time to take part in the planned day to sew it together with the other ladies. I had one week's notice of moving to Canberra, so passed on the pattern to one of the other ladies to lead the day. A few month's after arriving in Canberra, a parcel arrived of 15 blocks made by them after the day as a farewell gift for me. I discovered them languishing in a box in the garage and put together this top. I donated it to QFO in August. I plan on making one of the quilts for myself.

I also completed another Orphan Block Quilt for QFO in August.

In October I completed 2 Happy Blocks quilt tops for QFO. These were made using a bundle of charm squares donated to QFO together with yardage for the outside of the blocks.

I also completed another charm quilt in October, this one was made using a bundle of green and purple 7in charm squares donated to QFO.

The first quilt top for QFO completed in 2023 was on the 2nd of January. I was given a bundle of completed blocks together with some incomplete blocks and extra fabric. I found something for sashing and outer border and this lovely soft green quilt top was ready to return to QFO.

In January I also completed a gorgeous purple quilt top for QFO. I was given a group of Japanese fabric circles appliqued to purple backgrounds and this is what I came up with.

One of the members of Canberra Quilters, Rosemary Butt, donated 105 beautiful batik blocks to me to make up for QFO. Each quilt has a different colour for the sashing. This is the first of them, completed in February.

In April, I completed two Happy Blocks top in red and blue using a bundle of charm squares I was given, both for QFO.

In May, I completed a L-Block quilt with chocolate brown sashing and border. This used up a number of charm squares in a brown and gold colourway.

In June I completed a Double Brick quilt top for QFO. I had a bundle of hand dyed and tone on tone fabrics which I used for this top. I have cut up many other pieces to make up kits for other Canberra Quilters members to make for QFO. A simple pattern which looks lovely in any colourway.

Another top completed in June was a Happy Blocks top for QFO in navy and light blue.

The second batik top, this one using brown sashing, was completed in June as well.

I discovered an unfinished Mystery Quilt made with Southern Cross Quilters many years ago and decided to donate the top to QFO in June.

The final top completed in June was another Happy Blocks top, this one in navy and red.

In July, I donated an appliqued heart top that I made many years ago to QFO.

I completed a second L-Block quilt top in July, this time using a bundle of red, yellow and blue charm squares and a navy sashing.

The third batik top was completed in August, this one with a burgundy sashing.

I also completed a top for a child in August. The centre panel was donated to QFO but needed the applique stitching to be completed. After doing that, I added the outer blocks to make it a more usable size.

In September I completed one of the two tops made for QFO from a layer cake, each used half of the 40 blocks made. This one was sashed with a burgundy homespun.

In October, I completed working on a brown, black and white top. The centre 6 blocks with a narrow black and white border was donated to QFO. I added the top and bottom row of blocks using orphan blocks and a black and white border to complete the top.

I also used the 2nd set of Layer Cake blocks and sashed them with a turquoise fabric to complete this top in October.

In December, I actually completed a Quilt. This one was started as a sample for a class I taught in Sale in 1999. The top was made from fabric I hand-dyed in a class whilst living in Melbourne 4 years previously. The top was completed many years ago (not sure of the year) and quilted this year by The Quilt Lady. So nice to have a completed quilt.

A few years previously I picked up 7 trays of fabric pieces measuring 2" x 3.5" in size. After browsing a book by Judy Turner in the Canberra Quilters library, I made 35 blocks which became a scrap quilt for QFO completed in late December.

In late 2017 I was given 9 red and green blocks to turn into a top for QFO. They were discovered in my sewing room and in early January I added sashing and borders to make a top for QFO.

Amongst a fabric donation to QFO were part made blocks with lots of extra fabric pieces (measuring 2" x 3.5"). I made up enough blocks to make this quilt top for QFO, completed in mid January.

A few years ago I purchased a kit from the Bring and Buy sale at Canberra Quilters for a quilt inspired by The Gee's Bend Quilters in America. I made it up in January 2024 and will be donating the top to QFO. The quilt was fun and easy to make and I am very happy with the results.

In March, I completed 2 baby quilts, one for my great niece Zoe and the second for a great nephewAlastair. Here is Zoe's quilt.

This one is for Alastair. I used the same pattern for both with Moda charm packs and homespun.

Using a black, white and red layer cake, I made two tops for QFO, the first completed in March, the second in June.
